United Business Media Plc appoints Gary Hughes as Chief Executive of CMP Information

United Business Media Plc today announces that it has appointed Gary Hughes as Chief Executive of CMP Information, UBM’s professional and specialist consumer publishing division. He will take up his post later this month.

Gary Hughes, 43, has extensive media industry experience, most recently at Emap plc where he was Group Finance Director from 2000 until May 2005, also serving as Chairman of Emap’s music division. Prior to 2000, Hughes served as Scottish Media Group Plc’s Group Financial Director, taking responsibility for strategic business development and guiding the Group through a series of acquisitions. Prior to joining SMG, Hughes held senior international management positions at Forte Plc and Guinness Plc. Hughes is also a non-executive director of J. Sainsbury Plc.

Hughes’s appointment follows the appointments in 2005 of Henry Elkington as Director of Corporate Development and of Steve Weitzner as Chief Executive of CMP Media, the US publishing and events subsidiary of UBM.
